Week 6, Thing #13 Tagging and Deli.cio.us

I found this site very similar to others we have examined, including RSS Feeds and Rollyo. Another way to categorize favorites and websites. I personally searched out online shopping by putting in key words like Macy's and Sports Authority. I was amazed how I was directed right to the direct websites for these stores. I can most certainly see this as a tool for research assistance. Just as I searched out certain stores. Patrons can use it to search out topics of research interest.

Week 5, Thing #12, Roll Your Own Search Tool

The only thing I found frustrating about this task was waiting for the search roll to come up. The site can be extremely slow. I do see how a search tool like this can be used by a teacher to cover a particular unit of study. As a science teacher, I created a search roll on various websites used to study the human body sytems. t would be a great reinforcement tool for students during that particular unit of study.

Week 5, Thing #11, Web 2.0 Award Winners

From the Web 2.0 Award Winners List, I selected from the category on Books, namely Biblio.com. This site is primarily used to find used, rare, & out-of-print books. I would think that a college student could particulary use this site to save money on textbooks. I see myselk using this site to possibly set up a display in my library on "Books of the Past."http://biblio.com

I created a social network called "ReadforfFun." I plan to use this for my book club. Just a place for kids to discuss books that would be of interest to young adults, as well as discuss whatever book is being read that month.http://readforfun.ning.com

Week 5, Thing #10 Image Generators

BigHugeLabs: Do fun stuff with your photos

Posted using ShareThis

What a very creative site! I used a couple of my photos to create dice as well as pop art poster. As a classroom teacher, I could generate an image for my class website (schoolnotes.com). When I become a media specialist, I can generate an image for the library's website. The whole point would be to use the image to entice or draw an audience.

Week 4, Thing #9, Education Feeds

When I first set up my bloglines account, there was a whole list of websites, newslines, and blogs that I could choose to add to my RSS. I came upon three library-related sites: librarian.net, Library Stuff, and Librarians' Internet Index. This was probably the easiest method of locating feeds. When I tried to use the search tools, I had no luck with feedster or topix.net. Those pages could not even be found. I had more success with syndic8.com. I searched library blogs here and recovered the following list:

-the Digital Library
-Latest entries from lbr. library-blogs.net
-library blogs academic
-LIS Tools: a natural medicine librarian
-chisholm.library-blogs.net
-Latest entries from dundalkinstitute.library-blogs.net
-Latestentries from lcld.library-blogs.net

Week 4, Thing #8 RSS Feeds

http://www.bloglines.com/blog/cbrow25Wow! I always wondered what the orange icon next to the print button did. Now I know. RSS feeds are a great way to keep track of my favorite news, blogs, and entertainment websites. Two sites I visit just about everyday are espn.com and tmz.com. I am a sports fanatic and I love celebrity gossip. I promptly subscribed to both sites, now I can keep up with all the scores, highlights, and gossip from my bloglines account. RSS can also be a great tool for classroom teachers and librarians. As a science teacher, I often have my students search for current science articles on topics related to chapters discussed in class. I can now locate news items on a particular theme, copy the URL to the RSS or create links to a classroom blog. When I become a media specialist, I can use the RSS to keep up with many library-related blogs and websites, so that I can be kept up-to-date on the latest news, issues and technological advances. I have made my RSS public so others can view my favorites so far. Just click the subscribers button on the above link.

Week 3, Thing #7 Blog about Technology

I am very excited about this school year because I have my very own promethean board in my classroom. Promethean boards are interactive whiteboards that engage students with vivd images, video, and audio. Promethean active boards enable anything that can be seen or done on a computer screen to be projected onto an interactive whiteboard, bringing life to the classroom. I love it!
